He is a former commander of the Israeli Navy, former director of the Shin Bet (Israel's domestic intelligence service), and a former Labor Party member of the Knesset. Born in 1945, Ayalon became one of Israel’s most prominent security figures and later one of the most outspoken voices from within the Israeli security establishment arguing for a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. After leaving the Shin Bet, he co-initiated a joint Israeli-Palestinian peace proposal with Palestinian intellectual Sari Nusseibeh and has continued to speak publicly about occupation, security, democracy and the future of Israel. In this episode, Ami talks about his years in the military and intelligence services, the logic and moral cost of war, the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory, the war in Gaza, and why he believes Israel has failed to recognize its own victory. He discusses the failures of Israeli leadership, the need to understand one’s enemy, and why he argues that Israel’s long-term security depends on Palestinian freedom and a political horizon for both peoples. Aber der Reihe nach… Wir hatten gestern einen wunderschönen freien Tag in München, allerdings etwas unverhofft. Eigentlich waren wir eingeladen, um in der ZDF-TV-Sendung „Die Anstalt“ ein antifaschistisches Lied zu spielen. Ganz kurz vor der Aufzeichnung hat allerdings die ZDF-Intendanz ihr Veto gegen unseren Auftritt eingelegt. Eine offizielle schriftliche Begründung für unsere Ausladung haben wir leider bislang nicht erhalten, aber natürlich hat dieses Auftrittsverbot einen politischen Hintergrund. Das Lied, das wir spielen wollten, lag dem ZDF schon seit Wochen vor, und auch der hauseigene Justiziar hatte unseren Informationen nach schon grünes Licht gegeben. Auch von Seiten der Sendung „Die Anstalt“ gab es Proteste gegen unsere Ausladung, sie hatten sogar ihre ganze Sendung umgeschrieben, um das Lied einzuweben und werden in der Ausgabe am kommenden Dienstag darauf eingehen. Dieser Eingriff in die Meinungs- und Kunstfreiheit ist skandalös. Es ist ok, nicht bei allem einer Meinung zu sein, auch wir beide haben in unserer Freundschaft manchmal unterschiedliche Ansichten, wir diskutieren und debattieren und nehmen uns dann wieder in den Arm, das gehört in einer Freundschaft dazu. Dass nicht alle das Lied, das wir spielen wollten, mögen würden, war uns klar, dass wir auch hier über einzelne Zeilen diskutieren können und es Debatten auslösen kann, das ist doch toll, das ist gewünscht, das gehört in einer Demokratie dazu. Dass wir jetzt aber schon an dem Punkt angekommen sind, an dem eine ZDF-Intendanz autoritär in Sendungen eingreift, antifaschistisches Liedgut verbietet und eine Begründung verweigert, das erschüttert uns und das nennt man nicht Demokratie, das ist ein autoritärer Akt. 1/2 - Weiter in den Kommentaren… 📸 Foto: @michael_weniger".
